Witnesses – Calibration Blocks

Description

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Educational Cases are available for the following testing methods: Ultrasonics, Radiography, Visual Inspection, Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) / Penetrant Testing (PT), and Demonstration (multi-techniques).

These cases provide an exceptional and practical training resource, offering valuable information on various characteristic defects, how to identify them, and how to interpret them based on the signals or indications provided by these inspection methods. The cases also allow students to gain experience comparing defect indications on test samples with macrographs and radiographs provided.

Using these cases can reduce training time while greatly improving defect comprehension, ultimately leading to more reliable interpretation of indications from different methods. They are designed to meet the growing training needs and have been successfully integrated into many internationally recognized training programs, such as PCN, ASNT, DGZfP, Nortest, EN 473, and many others.

The terminology and defect descriptions comply with the AFNOR NF EN ISO 6520.1 standard.

These cases are available with test samples made of carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminum.

Case Contents:

A set of 10 easy-to-handle test samples, each made of carbon steel, with a different defect type, size, and location. All samples are coated with transparent lacquer to prevent corrosion. A radiograph photo (if applicable) of each type of defect. The ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and penetrant cases, as well as the demonstration case, include examples of radiograph photos. The radiography cases contain radiographs of each test sample.

Note: All radiographs were taken from carbon steel test samples.

A macrographic cross-section of each defect, covered with a transparent adhesive film to prevent corrosion.

Note: All macrographic cross-sections are made of carbon steel.

Information on defect location: type, approximate dimensions, and location of defects.
Inspection and acceptance criteria. A magnifying glass.
A certificate of conformity providing information on the inspection criteria used (for comparison purposes). These attractive and robust cases are made of light gray polypropylene with black molded compartments.
Dimensions and weight: 42 x 37 x 12 cm, 11 kg.

Important Note:

The MT and PT educational cases contain the same selection of samples with surface-breaking defects. However, it is necessary to allocate one case for penetrant testing and another for magnetic particle testing. Magnetic pigments tend to partially clog or block surface defects, preventing penetrants from entering, making the penetrant test unreliable. Although reliable magnetic particle testing can still be performed after penetrant testing, the reverse is not true, hence the need for separate cases for each non-destructive testing method.

Product Range:

MAGNETIC PARTICLE (MT) and PENETRANT TESTING (PT) Cases:
The 3 T-shaped samples and 7 plate samples contain a selection of surface-breaking defects, commonly encountered in practice. These samples help understand and identify defect types and compare them with the macrographic cross-sections and radiographs provided. Fundamental techniques for detecting and interpreting surface-breaking defects can also be developed.

Material: Carbon steel.

VISUAL INSPECTION (VT) Case:
The T-shaped sample and 9 plate samples contain a selection of weld defects and common discontinuities. They help understand and recognize defect types and compare them with the macrographic cross-sections and radiographs provided. Fundamental techniques for detecting and interpreting these defects can be developed.

Material: Carbon steel.

ULTRASONIC TESTING (UT) Case:
The T-shaped sample and 9 plate samples contain a selection of surface-breaking or internal weld defects, commonly encountered. These samples help understand and identify defect types based on ultrasonic echoes and compare them with the macrographic cross-sections and radiographs provided. Fundamental ultrasonic detection techniques and defect size evaluation can be developed.

Material: Carbon steel or aluminum.

RADIOGRAPHY (RT) Case:
The T-shaped sample and 9 plate samples contain a selection of surface-breaking and weld defects. These samples help understand and identify defect types and their radiographic images, comparing them with the macrographic cross-sections and radiographs provided. Fundamental radiographic detection and interpretation techniques can be developed.

Material: Carbon steel or aluminum.

DEMONSTRATION (DM) Case:
The T-shaped sample and 9 plate samples are a variety of carefully selected pieces from each of the other cases, providing an overview of defects and their detection using various non-destructive testing techniques. These samples can also be used to demonstrate the respective advantages and disadvantages of each non-destructive testing technique.

Material: Carbon steel.

NOTE: All radiographs are reproductions of actual radiographs.

Therefore, they are representative only of the defects contained in the provided test samples.
