Industries & Applications

Sofranel is proud to present the new portable scanner! Easy to use, it calculates the X-Y position of C-Scan data without the constraint of two rigid or semi-rigid arms. The Tracer is perfectly suited for use with phased array probes in linear scanning, but also with single-element ultrasonic probes. You'll quickly obtain a map up to 2m x 2m on flat, concave, convex, or complex surfaces.
  • VERSATILE Handheld scanning that provides X-Y position information without the constraint of a mechanical system.
  • FAST Setup and calibration in 5 simple steps.
  • PORTABLE Lightweight system, easy to handle, composed of a computing unit, two wire encoder holders, and a probe mounting system.
  • COMPATIBILITY Compatible with market electronics featuring two encoder inputs such as the VEO+ or PRISMA.
APPLICATIONS:
  • Corrosion mapping on flat, concave, or convex surfaces
  • Detection of delamination or defects in composites
  • Bond testing
  • Crack detection using Eddy Currents
The Tracer includes two wire encoders connected to the probe. Encoder data is transmitted to an interface which then calculates and delivers the X-Y positions to the connected electronics. The encoders can be installed anywhere near the inspection area, allowing them to be positioned on or next to the component, or to avoid an obstacle. They come with three mounting options depending on the surfaces to be inspected: suction cup, magnet, and clamp. They can be mounted vertically, sideways, or even upside down. The wire encoders are then connected to the probe using a mounting fork that can accommodate widths up to 55 mm. The Tracer can cover an area up to 2m x 2m. It's also possible to configure an inspection area at an angle relative to the encoder position. This allows C-scan acquisition in hard-to-reach areas. The Tracer does not lose position when the probe is lifted from the surface and then repositioned. The Tracer can be connected to any instrument capable of recording two encoding axes. It is powered by the 5V encoder supply and requires no additional power source.
